Bharti is first a storyteller and then an artist who expresses herself through semi-figurative and abstract artworks. Complementing her own personality, Bharti works with layers, effectively encoding varied human emotions within the core of her artworks, each ranging from the profane to profound, yet arriving to find a concealed realm within.

Bharti’s deep connection to the magic and mysteries hidden beyond the existential crisis of human society delivers her to the secrets of nature hidden in plain sight, scattered all around the so believed progressive world. Why does she choose trees as a subject time and again? According to the artist, trees are spiritual beings, silent but observant; to her, these creatures have seen & experienced turns of time, forests turning into villages then into cities. They have been confidants to travelers who sat underneath them for respite and opened their hearts without fearing judgment; they have been playmates to children who lived, played, and passed into adulthood, benevolent to women who prayed for the well being of their loved ones. These passive custodians of nature’s harmony are also the bearers of many untold stories of creatures who live in the shadows.

The selected canvas works of Bharti showcased on the website are taken from the collection of series that she has created over a period of time. Each artwork carries a whisper that unfolds as you walk through her perceptions. From sudden bursts of colors depicting vibrancy of life to discreet use of mellowed tones give a new and sometimes eerie dimension to the thoughts and imagination. The mystic and unknown worlds created through colors and brush strokes narrate stories that take you to a sacred space.

Bharti’s paintings can broadly be categorized as post-conceptual, telling stories through impressions of trees, leaves, movements, and colors; from sacred groves of trees to a lone standing oak, her works are steeped in the ancient mysteries and myths surrounding the forests. These brushstrokes of magic, fantasy, mystery, and the unseen worlds are interwoven deeply into her struggles, happiness, spiritual growth and life journey.

Bharti’s acrylic works like Witches of Eden Seeking Silence, Groves of Silence, Through Mist & Time to name a few, form The Witches Series. Her love affair with black & white is reflected deeply in the monochromatic paintings. She believes, just the juxtaposition of these two pigments can express an endless range of human emotions and fleeting existence, unbound and free, much in the way of her own being. Bharti believes in evolving in every moment; these moments spread over lifetimes and eons; time is ever-changing, things decay and die, but they also transmutate, emerging, time and again, giving birth to the new (beings). The forests in her art are a beautiful reflection of our undying thoughts and emotions.

In the artist’s own words:

The soil will slowly be absorbed in my limbs;

The colors will slowly bleed under my skin.

The earth will slowly embrace me;

The canvas will slowly caress me.

For when I will be born;

For when I will be created.

Then I shall be,

What I am meant to be.
