Cityscapes : an attempt to capture essence of different places
Exhibition by Artist Padmini Mehta
This series by artist Padmini Mehta as cityscape attempts to capture different places—big , small ,religious, modern, rich in history, soaked in tradition, lucky to be regional flag bearers —as heritage symbols. Her paintings are an offering of gratitude and concern for their unique character, mood, architectural value, color .She feels that she must capture in time the still-flowing water bodies which deserve special attention lest their life-enabling character changes for the worst and we are left with concrete jungles, haphazardly developed and dirty river sites.
It is fascinating for her to find and then juxtapose the architectural form of each historic city with a reflection of civilization and development. That is why she wants to create a combined identity of the city in one combined picture space . This approach will create a unique visual identity for the burgeoning modern World.
The idea of developing art works is to show deep thought, cultural value ,decoration, contemporary style, travel experience and desire to protect heritage symbols and to reinforce the myriad beauty of the land as she has seen it and strongly believes it. She does apply different color strokes as her language and tools to show the culture, character, identity ,the city’s richness, its past, its weighty values. Humbly, she wishes the art work will evoke empathy for those who gave us these monuments, their colors, their artistic motifs, structures and their stories of human life……
The paintings try to catch the ever-changing, kaleidoscopic vibrancy o f the city—Cityscapes that tell of days bygone.. and of today… with its hurly-burly, the sounds and smells and the systematic breathing, heavy or gentle… life’s continuous magic…
